Natural, All Natural, Holistically-Natural or Pseudo-natural? - That is the Question

May 3rd, 2008 by yuehcormier

By Danny Siegenthaler You may have realised that recently everything you look at claims to be ‘natural’, but what is natural? Does it referrer to everything that the product contains? Is it some of the ingredients in the product that are natural? Or is a single ingredient, which was isolated from an originally natural source, the only thing that is natural about the product? These are just some of the questions that are confusing customers today and in many cases claims by some manufacturers of that their products are natural, are misleading, if not totally false all together. Let’s look at what natural actually is defined to be: relating to nature, in accordance with the usual course of nature, present in or produced by nature, rather than being artificial or created by people, not artificially coloured or treated. That does not really tell us all that much, but let’s think about the images that this word, natural, may create in our minds. Natural - natural scene, nature’s playground such as the beach the mountains, virgin woods and forests, beautiful lakes and so on. It also reminds us of natural substances, smells of flowers, the air just after rain, animals in their natural habitat and so on. When it comes to products, be they for consumption or personal care, we tend to think of ‘natural flavours’ as opposed to artificial flavouring, natural preservatives versus artificial ones, but what is a natural ingredient and how could we define it better? Here is where things get a little murky because there are many ways we can think of a substance as being natural or not natural. For example, let’s use my favourite - Aspirin. The active ingredient in Aspirin tables is Salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is naturally found in the bark of the White Willow tree. Thus, Salicylic acid is a natural substance and if extracted from the bark, rather than recreated synthetically in a laboratory, you could say this is a natural product. But is it? Strictly speaking a liquid made from say water and Salicylic acid, would be natural and fit the definition of ‘as found in nature’, but let’s look at another way to get the same therapeutic effect from the properties of the White Willow bark. Herbal medicine uses the whole bark and utilises traditional methods to extract the ingredients from the bark. One of these ingredients is the Salicylic acid, but it’s just one of the ingredients. There are many more which do not help to numb pain or do very much to help relieve pain, but they do work on balancing the effects of Salicylic acid. We know that this acid can and does irritate the lining of the Stomach and that is why many of the companies that make Aspirin will put warnings on their labels and make suggestions of taking Aspirin with food and so on. Using the whole extract however, will include the modifying ingredients from the bark, which will protect the Stomach’s lining and yet the Salicylic acid will still work on reducing the pain. Now, which do you think is the ‘natural’ product? The one that uses a single naturally derived ingredient in a liquid, or the other one, which uses the more complete set of ingredients found in the White Willow bark? This point could be debated forever and both these could be called natural, depending on YOUR DEFINITION. My definition is that the products with the single isolated ingredient, is not natural because it misses many of the naturally contained substances that form part of the bark of the White Willow. For the purpose of this discussion, let’s say that the Aspirin at the Chemist or Drug store, containing Salicylic acid, was extracted from the bark; it’s not, but let’s pretend. In addition, let’s pretend that the Salicylic acid was in pure water, again, this is not the case, but just pretend with me for a little longer. That would mean, that there are basically two ingredients in the Aspirin, the first is the Salicylic acid and the second is pure water. Thus, you could say that this product was 100% natural or all natural, couldn’t you? Of course, there is nothing artificial, the ingredients are found in nature, so it’s natural. So what does that make the herbal extract, more natural? Well, it contains more ingredients whose origins are found in nature. Here is the dilemma, both are natural, both have taken all their ingredients from nature, so can we find a way to differentiate between the Aspirin from the Chemist/Drug store (it’s 100% natural…) and the Aspirin from the Herbalist (it’s 100% natural…)? Let me introduce a ‘new’ term “Holistically-natural”, what do I mean by this term? I propose, that this term may be of use to describe the type of product that has not been overly modified. That means, “Holistically-natural” would accept the alcohol extraction of all the ingredients, but would not except the additional step of extracting the Salicylic acid out of the alcohol-extracted ingredients. Similarly, essential oils are extracted from their parent plant by a variety of means, including, cold-pressed, steam distillation and others. “Holistically-natural”, would be applicable to essential oils, which have been extracted by the most appropriate form, but would not apply to further isolation, or manipulation of the derived essential oil. The reason for providing this ‘new’ term is to differentiate our “Natural Aspirin” from the Chemist with the Herbal extract of the White Willow bark used by herbalists. Both of products will help reduce pain, but only the latter containing a more complete set of the ingredients from the White Willow’s bark will help mitigate the possible irritating side effect of Salicylic acid on the lining of the Stomach. Thus, the herbalist’s version of the product would be “Holistically-natural”. Now, the skin and personal care industry is full of claims of ‘natural’ skin care products, and many manufacturers are abusing the term natural to the extreme. Using an isolated, naturally occurring chemical from a plant is, as we’ve seen, not what natural implies. Let’s look at the definition again: Natural means present in or produced by nature… Well, a single ingredient may well be present in and produced by nature, but nature itself does not use it in isolation. Nature uses it in balance with other associated chemicals - holistically. In the skin care industry, not only do creams and lotions often contain many different ingredients in order to achieve the claims by the manufacturer for a given product, but most of the time, the ingredients are a list of naturally derived, but not holistically-natural, ingredients, together with non-natural chemicals that do not have their origin in nature at all. Examples of this would include emulsifiers, colours, flavours, preservatives, etc. Some manufacturers bend the rules even further. Any substance that contains the chemical element Carbon is by definition an ‘organic chemical’. That is what ‘Organic Chemistry’ (Bio-Chemistry) is based on. Now, organic skin care therefore, may well be skin care that contains Carbon-based chemicals that may not occur naturally in nature, but because they contain carbon, they can be termed organic - do you see where I’m going with this? The term Organic is supposed to indicate that there were no artificial or synthetic products used to grow, say vegetables. Thus, there are no inorganic substances such as inorganic fertiliser, pesticides, herbicides, etc., present in the plant or the soil the plant was grown in. Many less ethical manufacturers will use the term organic to attract the consumers who are looking for ‘organic skin or personal care products’, but will actually sell them a product, which is not organic in the true sense of indicating free of in-organic substances, grown using organic farming methods, etc. Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not saying that all companies that claim to have organic skin care products are misleading you, far from it, however, there are some that do and it is sometimes difficult to establish which is the one that uses the term organic in the ‘holistically-natural’ way. We at Wildcrafted Herbal Products belief that holistically natural skin and personal care products are the only way to go. They are safer, better for you and easier for your body to make use of. The concept of holistically natural, follows the principle of ‘the less processed a product is, the better it is for you’. What Do You Do When Your Wedding Flowers are Out of Season?

May 1st, 2008 by yuehcormier

By Bonnie Ray You have your heart set on lilies for your wedding but your wedding is in November and lilies are only in season December to June, so what do you do? There are a couple of different solutions to your problem. Finding out of season wedding flowers may not be as hard as you think. Silk flowers have become extremely popular in the last few years. With there popularity has come an acceptance for silk flowers as wedding flowers. They are less expensive and last longer than real flowers. Lets say you need 50 royal size roses in various colors for your wedding. Buying them online from a wholesaler will cost you around $100 dollars while the same roses as silk will cost you about $50 dollars. By buying silk roses instead of real flowers you can save a lot of money on your wedding flowers. There are many advantages to using silk flowers instead of real flowers. Silk flowers today are gorgeous and realistic, making it hard to tell the difference between silk and fresh flowers. Fresh flowers are fragile and can wilt easily, silk flowers are so versatile they can be used anywhere and they wont wilt. With fresh flowers you cant expect to create the perfect color or the color you want if they are out of season. Silk flowers can be dyed any color and are always available. Not to mention silk flowers are a whole lot less expensive than fresh flowers. If you still have your heart set on having fresh lilies in November then there are some wholesalers who have greenhouses just for this reason. The flowers are going to cost more than if you bought them in season and you may have to place an order way in advance. But for those who have there heart set on out of season fresh flowers this is an option. The cost for out of season fresh flowers can be as much as three times the normal price. This can take a real bite out of your wedding budget. Most wholesalers need at least three months notice in order to fill an order for out of season flowers and they cant always guarantee the colors. Even though there are drawbacks to buying fresh out of season flowers they can be a viable option to those who insist on fresh flowers that are out of season. There are options for buying out of season flowers, it just depends on wether you want fresh or silk. Silk last longer and can be dyed any color while fresh out of season flowers are beautiful and traditional. Wether you decide on fresh out of season flowers or silk flowers both are appropriate for a wedding and both can be equally beautiful. Acid Reflux and Vinegar - Snake Oil or a Great Home Remedy?

April 28th, 2008 by yuehcormier

By Christopher W Smith Acid reflux is a painful condition experienced by millions of people every year. In fact, many feel the incidence of acid reflux is on the rise and attribute the increase to the modern high fat, high sugar diet and relatively sedentary lifestyle. Acid reflux is basically severe, recurring heartburn, generally believed to result from increased abdominal pressure. This pressure prohibits the esophageal sphincter muscle from closing off the stomach, and stomach contents (including strong stomach acids) wash up into the esophagus, causing intense pain. Numerous over the counter and prescription remedies for acid reflux exist , but not all sufferers find relief from medication. Additionally , the side effects of some medications , as well as their expense make them unattractive choices for some afflicted with acid reflux disease. Many people are constantly searching for a more natural , homemade remedy for this issue. Acid Reflux and Vinegar: A Potential Homeopathic Cure but Proceed with Caution One of the more popular remedies you may come across on the internet or on message boards , is the use of apple cider vinegar for the treatment of acid reflux. While acid reflux and vinegar may not seem to go together at all , considering the high acidic content of vinegar , there are people who report experiencing relief after drinking it and who will swear by this method. One hypothesis about why acid reflux and vinegar might be related is a controversial one - specifically , that acid reflux can sometimes be caused by too little stomach acid. not too much stomach acid. This theory holds that undigested food ferments in the stomach in the absence of appropriate levels of stomach acid. Adding vinegar aids digestion and reduces symptoms. Note that no one has tested this particular idea about acid reflux and vinegar. Of course there are those who aren’t concerned as to why acid reflux and vinegar are related to one another but are just thankful for the relief it brings. The hope and desire for an end to the burning sensations are usually enough for most people to try any home remedy , at least once. The use of vinegar has never been shown to be harmful to people when consumed in reasonable quantities; however there are those , of course , who report that acid reflux and vinegar do not , in fact mix and experience an unfortunate increase in their symptoms. New Drug May Increase Breast Cancer Survival

April 24th, 2008 by yuehcormier

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Joshua_Daly] Joshua Daly New research shows that a new drug called an aromatase inhibitor may boost the survival rate of post menopausal women who suffer from breast cancer. It has show to be a good improvement over the current tamoxifen therapy. The Italian study switched women taking the tamoxifen therapy to the aromatase inhibitor 2 to 3 years into the normal 5 year regiment. According to the results, there was improved performance of the aromatase inhibitors. This means that not only is it more efficient at fighting cancer, it will also allow users to avoid the adverse side affects such as endometrial cancer and strokes created by the other medication Dr. Gary M. Freedman, a radiation oncologist at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia said,”There’s still a lot of questions that remain, but this study confirms that five years of tamoxifen alone is really becoming the wrong answer for most postmenopausal women. At this point, you have to say that aromatase inhibitors are in the mix of treatment at some point.” According the HealthDay News, Tamoxifen has been in widespread use among breast cancer survivors for the last two decades. The drug is typically taken after surgery, because it targets the hormone estrogen, which can promote tumor cell growth in women with estrogen-sensitive breast cancer. A standard five-year treatment of tamoxifen has been found to reduce breast cancer death rates by as much as 31 percent. Tamoxifen must still undergo many tests and trials before it will even be considered for approval. But it is definitely a step in the right direction not to just find a new better cure, but to also realize where our current treatments fall short. Gastrointestinal Drugs, Know the Danger of Drugs - Part 2

April 22nd, 2008 by yuehcormier

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Chee_Fui_Chau] Chee Fui Chau Stomach Acid Blockers and Ulcer Drugs Despite doctors’ calls for improved lifestyles, the multitude of gastrointestinal drugs on the market is astounding. Stomach acid blockers, such as nizatidine, famotidine, cimetidine and randitine are another popular drug group used to treat duodenal and gastric ulcers and conditions caused by excess stomach acid. Long-term safety of these drugs is still unknown, but side effects may include confusion, hallucinations, dizziness, sore throat and fever, irregular heartbeat, abdominal pain, skin rash, depression, diarrhea, hair loss, headache and nausea. Because older people eliminate drugs more slowly from their bodies, they are at an especially high risk of side effects. Ulcer drugs, such as sucralfate, misoprostol and omeprazole are used to treat and prevent ulcers resistant to the usual treatment with stomach acid blockers or antacids. Adverse side effects include constipation, dizziness, backache, drowsiness, dry mouth, indigestion, stomach cramps, difficulty breathing, fever, cloudy or bloody urine, bleeding or bruising and skin rash. Certain ulcer drugs have also been shown to alter chemical markers of bone metabolism, possibly leading to osteoporosis. Long-term suppression of acid by ulcer drugs can also lead to intestinal infections. Stomach acid blockers and other ulcer drugs should not be taken for minor digestive complain such as occasional upset stomach, nausea or heartburn, as there is no evidence that they effectively treat these problems. They should also not be used by those with pre-existing conditions and in combination with other drugs, so it is critical to consult with a physician before taking any ulcer drug. It is also important to recognize that even with treatment, ulcers frequently return after a few months. As long-term prevention, people prone to ulcers should avoid smoking, foods that trigger ulcers and drugs known to aggravate ulcers, especially aspirin, ibuprofen and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Anti-Nausea Drugs for Cancer patients Although most instances of stomach pain are caused by diet, feeling of sickness, including nausea and vomiting, are also side effects linked with chemotherapy drugs can affect the lining of the digestive system and others can cause people to lose their appetite for a time. More rarely, chemotherapy drugs can cause constipation. A doctor may prescribe one of a number of anti-sickness drugs (antiemetics) to stop or reduce these side effects. However, these drugs can cause further side effects including signs of tardive dyskinesia, parkinsonism and neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Eating small, frequent meals so the stomach is never empty, avoiding foods with strong smells and drinking clear liquids are simple dietary changes that may prevent the need for antinausea drugs (drum). Effective Solutions to Gastrointestinal Upset Stomach discomfort is real, but it is preventable in many cases. According to physicians, dietary changes, as opposed to drugs, should be the first solution in the attack against inner aches and pains. As medical studies demonstrate, improved daily eating habits may help prevent the gastrointestinal nightmares haunting the stomachs of millions. Furthermore, choosing a healthy lifestyle hushes the phrase “oh, I shouldn’t have” and prevents emergency drugstore trips and the body will celebrate their absence. Tears Will Come Before Your Healing And Five Ways To Use My Story To Heal Your Life

April 21st, 2008 by yuehcormier

By Matthew Robert Payne Tears fall before the healing I remember so clearly the train ride. I can remember the open display of tears in public as I boarded the train. I can remember the fog that settled around my shoulders on that trip. My life and child had left, and in one argument all the meaning in my life was snatched away. Yes the tears, I remember every one of them as they trickled down my face. I remember the looks of other passengers. I could see the lovely countryside, the cows, the sheep and the blue sky. But God could have done anything that day and Im sure he was trying to shake me from the numbness that was taking me in its grasp. How could my bride tell me to leave? Didnt she know we were supposed to be married for a lifetime? Didnt she know she meant everything to me? Didnt she care for me at all? Didnt she know I was an emotional guy and needed to be handled with care? How do you cope with all of your meaning in your life suddenly out of your grasp? How do you get up? When all you want to do is sleep for six months. You can deny it. Yes, you think you can go to sleep and wake up and youll wake up and everything will be okay. Thats what you did. Thats how the Easter bunny and Santa Clause used to come faster. You had three sleeps , then two and then suddenly they are back with chocolate and presents. Surely, the rules hadnt changed. Surely that is all I need to do. Just sleep it off I will. And then after a few days sleep and moping around in your parents house, its the weekend. And you were meant to be going something with your son today. But hes 550kms away and he doesnt even know you have left. And suddenly a sharp jab of pain pierces your hard and controlled mind, and somehow you are gushing tears. You cant pick the day. You cant pick the time and you know you cant pick the place. Why does a boy licking an ice cream reduce you to your knees crying? Why does a little babies cry make you turn in expectation?. Why does two little boys chasing each other in the shopping center make you explode with tears? The tears I cried must have filled a bucket, then a tank, then a pool. I remember reading around this time, that Jesus collects all of out tears in a jar. I laughed at that. Im a simple man. I like stories, and this one sentence in the bible was a great image. The fact that my tears meant something to some God in heaven that I knew all about intrigued me. But it didnt stop the tears. They rained and rained. Then, within three weeks, a new feeling had descended. This one was dangerous. If she had taken my meaning away, and she didnt care. Well I didnt care anymore. I simply didnt. And this new guy in her life that she has been having an affair with seems a nice guy. I really liked him. He had a better job. He was paying off a house. He would be a better provider. It would be better just to exit stage left. Yes, I was causing my whole family grief and they were all treading on eggshells. Why even my younger brother stopped touching his wife when I was present. And my mother was so sad. My father was at a loss. My sister she couldnt find the words. Yes, it would be better if I just left them. It was fairer on everyone. They didnt know about divorce. Our extended family had never experienced it and seeing me so broken was hurting them more then I could bear. Somewhere in there, my sister had worked out for using some sexual abuse indicator chart, that I had had been sexually molested. And seeing that I didnt have any reason to continue on living I had recently spilled the truth on my life. Out came the stories of prostitutes. Out come the doubts in my sexuality. Out came the pain and embarrassment of men I had slept with. Out came all the feelings of hopelessness. And yes when the family found out all of this they were shattered. How could there son have lived this life? How could have their brother been so low? Why hadnt I ever told them I was broken and lost and in pain? Why didnt I tell them? Didnt I care? Didnt I feel that they loved me? Why didnt I trust anyone?? How could this happy brother of theirs possibly have lived this life? No. They didnt know this boy they called their brother. There seemed a lot more to this guy. And they felt guilty. They wanted to say sorry. They did apologize and try and hug me and comfort me and they were feeling so torn for me. My mother was beside herself with worry. And she knew her boy was slipping from even her grasp. I was in the shower one day weeping. I had decided to kill myself. I knew how. I was going to get changed. I was going to come outside all happy and cheery and tell them I was going downtown. I was going to write a letter and give it to the reception at my fathers work. Then I was going to kill myself. The pain was unbearable, but somehow after I had accepted that I was going to be gone soon my tears were becoming less. Id just stepped out of the shower when my younger brother came into the bathroom. He looked at my eyes and I turned from his gaze. But he asked me what was wrong. Hed seen my eyes. I told him I couldnt go on. And yes I didnt want to live anymore. I told him easily enough and didnt really feel guilty. He sat down and told me to turn around. He accepted that I was going to kill myself and said there was nothing he could do except hope I didnt. He apologized for all the insults he had given me as we were growing up and said if he had known I was taking them to heart each time, he would have never said them. He told me he loved me and said he would miss me if I left this earth. But he said that he understood that I didnt feel the need to live and he couldnt blame me if I did kill myself. As a counselor he was being put to the test. Then he said something remarkable. Something that saved my life. Something that has everything to do with every one of you readers that are reading this now. I understand you cant find a reason to get up. But look at your life. You have been with prostitutes. You have been molested by a pedophile. You have slept with men. You have drunken yourself to oblivion and back. Youve had a wife cheat on you. You have lost your wife. You have lost your son. You have been sexually abused. You have a father that you dont love. You have had brothers pick on you all your life. And you dont have any love for yourself. Or any reason to live. And today , I can see in your eyes that you have decided to end it all. And so its up to me to give you the hope you need. Its up to me, because I dont think I will see you again if I let you go from here. So Matthew just think about this for a minute. If you cant get up for yourself. Just think of all those people you could help if you got up. If you can recover from this. If you could get up and heal yourself and get counseling and make it out of this mess. Think how many would find hope in your story. Think how many people would live because you shared your story. Everyone would have a hope. If you make it, you can reach more people then I ever could. I have a degree, but you have lived it mate. Think about those thousands of people., Think about how much they need you.. If you cant get up for yourself. Get up for them. Go on. He patted me on the back and left the bathroom without another word, except, Ill miss you mate. Two things saved me that day. All of you and that statement saying Ill miss you. There was no judgement. There was no guilt. But my brother would miss me.. If you have read this and you are going through a hard time. Remember the tears have to rain first. But like any storm, the rain stops one day. And the sun Will come out. I know it does.. But I know that wasnt the last time I was on my way to kill myself. Ive been brought back from the brink a few times, with just a couple of heart felt words. Five ways you can use my story to help yourself. 1. You can overcome grief. Sometimes it is important just to know someone has been through what you have been through. I am that person for you. I have done it and Id love to share more answers with you. It is important that you know you can get through what you are going through. You can overcome it. You can get up form the floor with the wind kicked out of you. You can because I did, and if you need some help Im here for you. 2. You can heal any memory. You can heal every memory that you have, Every hurt, every abuse. Every painful memory. How do I know this? Because thats what I have done. Its a process called healing of the memories, and if you cant find any information on it, feel free to come and be healed by contacting me. 3. You can be set free. If you are living with guilt and blaming yourself for things that have happened to you, it is possible to be forgiven. All you need to do is ask Jesus Christ to take the feeling away. If you arent a Christian now, you can find out more about Jesus by visiting a really good Australian site by clicking here. He is a wonderful saviour and a good friend of mine. One of my favorite books on the subject of walking in a close relationship with him is Experiencing the Depths of Jesus Christ by Madam Guyon This book is a wonder and you will enter into a closer relationship with Him through reading and meditating on it. 4. You can find a reason to live Part of my recovery included finding out what I was here on this earth for. I had always wondered what I was meant to do. When I read a book on temperaments three years ago it totally changed the direction in my life. To some of you this book might not appeal, but to the majority it will be an invaluable resource. Have you ever felt you are just not being accepted for who you are? Are you frustrated with your work and place in society and want to know what youd really be suited to doing? Well if you are going through turmoil and you want some direction, I strongly suggest you look up this book. It gave me a purpose, then I got a vision and now I free of worry and depression. Its called Please Understand Me and available from Amazon .com 5. You can learn more about abuse and its effect on those you love. There are plenty of sites around that can help you heal. If you cant find any help and you simply need a person to talk to get in touch with me. Remember after the tears stop. the sun shines. I have cried a lot of tears in my life. Sometimes I look back and wonder how I got through it all. But today, I love myself. Today there is a smile on my face. And today, even though I may be overwhelmed with grief sometimes and be reduced to tears, I know the sun will return faithfully. Matthew shares his heart in these articles and can be found at http://www.online-prayer.net You can read more of his articles at his link below. If you want a copy of his upcoming book of articles which will have the first sixty of the articles on this web-site called “The Musings of a Mad Prophet” please contact Matthew via email so he can contact you around February 2007 to tell you of the progress of the book. Growing Organic! Herbs, Flowers and Fruit

April 19th, 2008 by yuehcormier

By Judy Williams Creating no dig gardens on top of the soil gives you many immediate advantages over the usual garden. It is quick and easyIt will improve the soil underneath the bedIt is weed free and organic While my site has concentrated on the vegetable garden, the same garden building techniques can be used for flower beds, herbs and fruit trees. Herbs Herbs can be planted straight into the no dig garden bed. Because of their uses, the herb garden should be situated in a sunny spot very near your kitchen. Then you can simply step out the door and make an ordinary meal into a culinary delight! If there isn’t an obvious space handy, herbs will grow very well in containers. However, if you do have the space, there is a wonderful project called the ‘Herb Spiral’ you can build. It’s extremely space efficient and caters for the various microclimates that herbs like. It involves building a vertical spiral, usually from rocks, about 6 ft across and 2-3 feet high. The top is quite dry and hot, the bottom is moist and there is a sunny side and a shady side. A garden of this size will need about 1.5 cubic metres of soil or compost materials. The top is good for Mediterranearn type herbs like rosemary, thyme and sage. The mid sections suit chives, shallots, Italian parsley, tarragon, rocket and coriander. The lower, cooler section suits borage, peppermint, pennywort and lemon balm. These are just suggestions as there are many plants that will grow in your spiral. Useful note: For those in the Northern hemisphere, the hottest side of your spiral will be facing south. For those in the Southern hemisphere, the hottest side of your spiral will be facing north. Flowers and Shrubs Every garden has some sort of ornamental flowers or shrubs. It’s fundamental to our concept of a garden! The no dig gardening method will allow then to thrive no matter where you are. There isn’t the space to go into specifics here, but some simple considerations before you get started… Try to plant species that are native to your area. There are many reasons for this but the best one is that those plants will do best where you live! Don’t get stuck in a high maintenance routine for something that simply isn’t suited to your area. Plant species that will attract local fauna. Help struggling native animals, birds, frogs and insects by building suitable habitat for them. You will be rewarded many times over when they discover where you live! Plan what you want from your garden. A colour scheme? Flowering year round? What will really thrill and inspire you? That is what the garden is for. It feeds your spirit while you make your way in the world. Fruit trees To use the no dig garden method with fruit trees, you have to be patient. The garden will have to be 2-3 generations on before the benefits have gone deep enough for the fruit tree to be planted. However, once the hard yards are done (mostly by local worms!), you should be thinking about planting your own fruit trees. Apples are the most popular fruit on the planet. Do you recall how the fruit tasted when you were a kid? Nothing like the stuff you get today. The disturbing thing is that pesticides can be taken into the fruit and stay there long after harvest. Then they are waxed and stored in chemical dependant environments. Seriously consider growing your own fruit. Berry canes, apples, cherries, lemons, limes, plums, pears, oranges, there’s no end to the possibilities. Explore what will grow in your neighbourhood and plant those trees! It’s not too hard and a single tree (apple) can net up to 500 apples in a growing season. Growing items of your own food is incredibly rewarding. Even decorating your house with cut flowers that you have grown yourself is vastly more satisfying than just buying a bunch. Gardening is a creative and spiritually nourishing pastime. Ponder your space. Imagine the limitless variety available to you. Then go crazy with inspiration! Conversation Starters

April 13th, 2008 by yuehcormier

By Dan Powers The reality is that MOST guys REALLY need help in this area, so Im going to dip into my personal archive and share an experience with you. Before I do though, let me just say that being able to start conversations is a simple, yet important skill to master as you become a natural at meeting, attracting and dating women. Instinctively, we guys know that we need to take the lead and begin interactions with women. But we often dont. Tell me… How many guys do you know who can approach a beautiful woman in a public place and begin a conversation with her? That is, without being drunk! Not many I bet. I can empathize… I remember the days of being out on the town, seeing attractive women and thinking: Gee, Id love to talk to her…but it just seems so difficult. What would I say?! Instead of facing up to what I NEEDED to do, Id resign to admiring the woman from a distance. Secretly, Id hope that a chance to talk to her would somehow pop up before the night ended. What I failed to realize then, but understand now, is that the opportunity was right in front of me. …and a conversation starter was all that I needed. So, why didnt I just start a conversation? Because I didnt know HOW! Imagine this… 1. You want to go meet some friends at a party.2. You dont know how to drive.3. …and the ONLY way to get there is by car. Would you feel a little frustrated? Now imagine that within that group is a beautiful woman, who recently became single and is rumored to be attracted to you. To make matters worse, another guy will be at the party whos known for being good with women and will probably end up attracting her! How you feeling now? You want to get there, but you dont know how! Well, what if I said that I could teach you how to drive so you COULD meet her? Would you be interested? Good. Lets come up with some conversation starters then The reality is that most guys do one of two things when they want to start conversations with women: 1. Fail to start a conversation, or;2. Use a conversation starter that is scripted. The use of SCRIPTED conversation starters is where a lot of guys fall down, because theyre usually incongruent with the situation. If you put on act, youll find that women will often sense what youre up to and lose attraction for you immediately. Why? Because women generally dont want guys who are too scared to be themselves. Your conversation should be a NATURAL EXPRESSION OF YOURSELF not some script you learned from a wannabe pick up artist on the internet. Okay, so you might be thinking, How do I start conversations with women in a natural way then? Easy. Just come up with RELEVANT conversation starters that are SITUATIONAL. Observe what is going on around you and look for things that could be topics for conversation. Example: Two women in a pub watching the football. Great to see that the footy is back on. Is your team winning? Depending on your tonality and body language, this can really open up into a good conversation. However, be prepared to follow up the conversation as this question can be answered with a simple Yes or No. Example: Youre shopping in a MENS clothing store and see attractive woman looking at a blue shirt. I don’t think that shirt is really you…itd look good on me though blues my colour (said with a smile and in a PLAYFUL way). Its not that hard. Just keep it SIMPLE and SITUATIONAL. If you can be natural and real, women will respond by being more open and personable. Interactions will flow smoother. Its up to you. Next time youre faced with an opportunity to interact with an attractive woman, know that the ability to start with a relevant and natural conversation starter is right there with you. Who knows where it could lead? Cheers Ben The Modern Man is a company that teaches men how to meet, attract and date women. The American Geisha Must Be Selective: How to choose a man

April 11th, 2008 by yuehcormier

By Py Kim-Conant No matter how youve met a man, the first thing you want to do is try to ascertain whether he has the potential to be a Good Man for you. If he seems to have that potential, you certainly would be open to seeing him further. If he seems not to have that potential, it is best not to see him further, unless seeing him further would open good social networking opportunities for you. Remember always to be frank and honest and nonmanipulative and kind to the men you encounter while dating. Dont lead on an inappropriate man once you realize he is not a candidate for a longer-term relationship with you. You must also choose carefully from among the men you attract. You waste time dating a man who has little or no potential to be a Good Man for you. Not only that, but your image may suffer from dating inappropriate men, perhaps discouraging other men from getting to know you, possibly including a man who may have been right for you. Lets say that a man you meet at a bookstore coffee shop asks you out for dinner. According to whether or not he seems to have some Good Man potential, you could answer him in one of several ways. If you judge quickly (or after a forty-five-minute chat) that there is either no potential or so little potential that you do not want to invest any further time, you want to discourage him. You might respond, Thank you, thats sweet of you. But I cant. If he persists (which he probably wont), say truthfully, Im just not available right now. Its been nice to meet and to talk with you. Do not touch him and do not be your most fun, likable self. After all, you want to discourage him.
