Missionary Work Is Awesome

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Buddy Shearer Missionary work is awesome. It is that simple. It is hard to describe the in-describable. Many times people think that the real reason for the trip is for the heathens of the world yet it is so much more than that. Personally, I have been on about eight trips and each one is different. It is very true that God works in mysterious ways. In fact he works in all of our lives but most of the time we cannot see beyond our own selfless world. I can honestly say that I have met people and I knew without a doubt that I was sent to sit with them, encourage them, help them, and support them. Many times people with needs are too proud to ask for that kind of help but when someone shows up in a working environment or even a simple praise time. That small amount of time can have a huge impact in that persons life. Unfortunately, not everyone can go. Many times there are people who believe they have wasted their lives because they did not pursue missions of some sort. Instead, they placed their resources, such as money, in other people and projects for the greater good. They diligently come to the church service where the returning reports and testimonies are given, sit and listen. They rejoice in silence. Recently, I met one such person. She is a retired lady in the church and her husband is confined to a nursing home. But she has that gleam in her eye when the reports come back and I am VERY confident that she is one of the silent givers to our many trips. The positive attitude, smiles, and simple gifts of food given for the departing trip were always thought of as being sweet. But there was so much more than that. No matter what the gift. We usually take them for granted until God puts it into perspective for us. So even though we travel to far off places to reach people that probably do not know God. There are others that benefit too even though they do not board the plane. They may have some reservations about past paths but I feel they are blessed in as much, if not more, than me. The second person concerning missions came out of the blue to me. But I was too late to respond. This man was a meticulous person. A very detailed and analytical thinker. I thought he were very deliberate in every thing he did but missions? No way! As it turned out. He too went to the church services for the reports and testimonies. And like others sat there and absorbed the moment. He asked questions, looked at their souvenirs and marveled at their witnessing stories. But he never went on a trip. It was not until his funeral that I learned of his passion for the mission field. I heard the stories of how money was needed so he setup a special fund so groups would not have to worry about not having enough. He made it happen for them during those short falls in cash and stayed completely anonymous. He even contributed to my trips when mine looked impossible. I wish I could thank him now. I wish I knew then what I know now. Thanks Dad! Copyright (c) 2006 Buddy Shearer Buddy Shearer is not a sought-after Internet marketer but rather a regular guy trying to make a living. Ditching Business School Stress

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Amber C. Smith For most students in business school, the primary source of stress comes from the fact that they’re also trying to balance a full-time job. So, how do you handle the stress of your job, your family, and business school? Combine When You Can Whenever possible combine your actual work projects with assignments for school. Many times you’ll need to do surveys or write reports for school. If you can, combine those assignments with your job so that you can save yourself some time. Work Together Most of your projects in business school will probably be team projects. Keep in mind that working with other students on these projects is the key to your combined success. A positive attitude while working with others will go a long way in keeping your stress level down in business school. Remember the Positives Think about the positives in your situation. Most likely, your company is paying for you to get the degree. Even if they’re not, you’ll be able to get a higher paying job and change careers if you’d like when you finish. Focus on these positives, and business school will suddenly seem much easier. Study as a Group In business school, most of your projects will be completed in groups, so you might as well create study groups as well. Studying together will be very helpful since much of your learning will be about theory or practical ways to implement strategies. The discussion of these groups can prove to be more valuable for studying than any note cards you could create. Remain Balanced If you have a family at home and a job and other commitments, giving your time to business school can be difficult and frustrating, particularly when you already have a job. Do your best to stay balanced by remembering that some things are urgent and some things are important, but the important ones should almost always win. What to Remember When you’re stressed out in business school, remember these tips: Combine when you can. Work together. Remember the positives. Study as a group. Remain balanced. Pure Skin - Organic Beauty Basics Book Review By Wayne’r

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Wayne Potter This book has a great balance between information on skin care, information on how to make your own organic ingredients and the recipes to use them in. The skin care section is divided into stress reactive, hormone reactive, environmentreactive, and mature, this is a lot like Nicholas Perricone’s brake down of skin types. Which I like because your skin is always changing. Blending essential oils I have to agree, that any more than four oils gets to be to much. And I really like the section on how to infuse your own oils. The one new tool you will have to get is a French Press if you do not already have one. Barbara’s homemade skin care recipes for the most part have only four ingredients in them making themeasy to make. Recipes will cover you from head to toe. Making this a good book ifyou are new to making your own skin care products. Eating the right foods does make a difference in the way your skin looks. The foodsection is simple to fallow and not over the top. Close has a real out look on the habits of people, and the tips she gives will make small changes in the foods you buy for long lasting results. As for the Resources section it is one of the best that I have Seen. I have put offthe next book at this time just so I can spend more time at each of these resources. The one I liked the most is The American Botanical Council. What a great site. This book is a lot like Naturally Beautiful; you will read it once and go back to it over and over again. I will try to get Barbara’s lecture schedule, she would be a world of information worth hearing. Other book that she has out are Well Being and The Spa Deck. If you are new or have been making your own organic skin care products this is a good book!! Natural Skin Care Info. Expectations of a Relationship - Do You Follow Them Yourself?

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Alisa Chagnon We all know what we need and want out of a loving, healthy relationship. There may be a slight variance; however, there are some basic solid principles that stand up to create relationship guidelines. It has occurred to me, that perhaps the reason it is so difficult for people to find a long-term, meaningful and satisfying relationship is that we are asking for things that we cannot even give to ourselves. If we expect another person to follow these guidelines and fit into the mold of what we conceive of as a loving partner, shouldnt we begin by having a fabulous relationship with ourselves? Lets look at five of the basic requirements of what should be in place for a relationship to take off and possibly lead to marriage. Honestly, respect, loyalty, physical attraction, and a fun loving enthusiastic personality. Lets breakdown these five characteristics and see where it leads us. Honesty: perhaps one of the most important elements of a trusting and loving relationship. If you are in a relationship with a person who does not possess a high standard of honesty, you will never be able to fully trust them. When in a relationship, we should be able to completely and unequivocally believe everything that our partner tells us. If a person lies, you mind as well be having a fake and meaningless conversation. Are you even honest with yourself? When youre out clothes shopping and you have acquired more than a handful of clothes, do you tell yourself that its alright to add the bill to your credit card and that you deserve to splurge, (despite that fact that your way over your head in debt)? Are you in out of relationships and in each instance you tell yourself that the other person was at complete fault, that you had absolutely no contributing factors for any of the breakups that youve endured? Do you sometimes find yourself yelling at a loved one and you tell yourself that you had every right to make them feel horrible? If any of these apply to you, you are not even honest with yourself. How can you expect the person of your next relationship to be honest to you? Respect: a word that calls for attention. No one in their right mind would be happy if someone disrespected them. How many of you have spent a night of drinking with friends during the week, woke up the next day with a splitting headache and wanted to or did call into work sick? Did you then tell yourself that you are just fine, you do not drink too much and you have everything under control? When its late at night, youre starving, and about to reach into the fridge for a snack, do you tell yourself that its not a big deal if you eat half that pint of ice cream, even though you are on a diet for health reasons? As you take a deep drag off of your cigarette, do you tell yourself that youll quit someday , that youre just fine for now and cancer is something that you only need to think about in the future? If any of these apply to you then you do not have complete respect for yourself. And once again, how can you expect a person in a relationship to have show respect? Loyalty: A key element in any relationship. If we dont have loyalty from another person, we can not truly feel safe in the relationship. How many of you have worked for a company and declared your loyalty to that company and then gave your two-weeks-notice when a position opened up elsewhere that paid more money? How many of you have never cheated on another person? By this, cheating will be defined by kissing another, have a secret meeting for lunch or dinner, phone calls, or yes, even sex, while in a relationship with anyone. If any of these apply to you, you have not displayed loyalty. And now you are asking for it from someone else? Physical attraction: A needed component of a healthy relationship. We have instilled in us certain needs that make us attracted or not attracted to another person. If we are in a relationship, we certainly want to feel a high attraction to the other person, which leads to a great sex life and a general feeling of compatibility. What is your perception of yourself? When you glance in a mirror, do you think about the wrinkles you see? When youre getting dressed, do you try on ten different outfits because you feel that the first nine made you look fat? Do you grimace at the thought of parading around the beach in a bikini because you think that everyone in the world should look model perfect? No one can look like a model, except for models! Even then, if you knew the makeup, hair stylists and airbrushing that was involved you would understand that they do not even look like themselves in real life. If any of the above applies to you, you do not have a good self-image and/or you have low self-esteem. If you are not even attracted to yourself, do you think its fair to expect your partner in the relationship to be great looking and be attracted to you? They look at clues that you exude, ie: self-confidence and it helps gauge their opinions of your looks. Start appreciating the unique person that you are. Lastly, a fun loving, enthusiastic personality. No one in a relationship wants to spend a large amount of time with someone who is boring, dull and unable be fun companions. Do you dread waking up in the morning because you hate your job? Alternatively, do you love your career and concentrate on it so much, leaving very little time for fun in your life? Do you run through your chores at home complaining about the never-ending mess on the floor, laundry that never seems to go away and dishes that seem to appear out of nowhere? Do you go through the food store as fast as possible, no smile on your face and a get out of my way expression? If you spend most of your life annoyed at things and you dont take time out to appreciate life, how can you be a fun partner in a relationship and at the same time expect the other person to be one? Lifes is far from perfect, but to be someones special love, you need to slow the heck down and realize that having a bad outlook on life is going to get you nowhere. Honesty, loyalty, respect, physical attraction, and a great personality: do you want these elements in a perspective relationship? If so, ask yourself a very important question. If you cannot have a good relationship with yourself, how can you expect to find one with another person? This article was written by Alisa Chagnon, webmaster of the Love Bulletin. Garlic: The Stinking Rose

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Allison Mitchell Garlic, called the stinking rose by Russians, is an onion-like bulb from the lily family. It is believed that garlic originated in Central Asia. It is thought to have covered an area from China to India to Egypt to the Ukraine. Garlic still grows wild throughout Central Asia. It isnt known exactly when it was first discovered, however researchers believe that the Ancient Egyptians and Indians were using it for cooking and medicinal purposes as long as 5000 years ago. The Babylonians were believed to be using it around 4500 years ago, and the Chinese as recently as 2000 years ago.Archeologists have discovered clay sculptures of garlic bulbs and paintings of garlic dating about 3200 B.C. in Egyptian tombs in El Mahasna. A recently discovered Egyptian papyrus dating from 1,500 B.C. recommends garlic as a cure all for over 22 common ailments, including lack of stamina, heart disease and tumors, and its been said the Egyptians fed garlic to the slaves building the pyramids to increase their strength. Garlic proved itself worthy to peasant and royalty alike as Tutankhamen (Egypts youngest pharaoh) was sent into the afterlife with garlic at his side. In ancient Greece and Rome, garlic enjoyed a variety of uses, from repelling scorpions to treating dog bites and bladder infections to curing leprosy and asthma. It was even left out as an offering to the Greek goddess Hectate. Early Greek military leaders fed garlic to their troops before battles to give them courage and promise victory (and perhaps in an attempt to fell the opposing army with one good whiff.) Even Greek Olympic athletes counted on garlic to stimulate performance. Ancient Transylvania, home of the vampire legend, found garlic to be an effective mosquito repellent as well as a way to ward off toothsome visitors. In the Middle Ages garlic was thought to combat the plague and was hung in braided strands across the entrances of houses to prevent evil spirits from entering. While modern day experience cannot confirm garlics effect on evil spirits, it has been proven that garlic, at the least, will prevent a goodnight kiss at the end of a date. For many years, garlic was shunned by Western cultures such as Britain and America because of the stench it left behind. In seventeenth century England, garlic was considered unfit for ladies and anyone who wished to court them, and it was avoided in America even early into the 20th century, when famous chefs would substitute onion for it in recipes. As America experienced a huge increase in immigration during the 19th century, however, garlic slowly gained popularity in the American palette. In 1858, Louis Pasteur documented that garlic kills bacteria, with one millimeter or raw garlic juice proving as effective as 60 milligrams of penicillin. During World War II, when penicillin and sulfa drugs were scarce, the British and Russian armies used diluted garlic solutions as an antiseptic to disinfect open wounds and prevent gangrene. Though not completely understood at the time, todays research has confirmed that garlics healing powers stem from hundreds of volatile sulfur compounds found in the vegetable, including allicin, (which gives garlic its offensive odor), alliin, cycroalliin, and diallyldisulphide. The allicin in raw, crushed garlic has been shown to kill 23 types of bacteria, including salmonella and staphylococcus. Heated garlic gives off another compound, diallyldisulphide-oxide, which has been shown to lower serum cholesterol by preventing clotting in the arteries. Vitamins in garlic, such as A, B, and C, stimulate the body to fight carcinogens and get rid of toxins, and may even aid in preventing certain types of cancer, such as stomach cancer. Garlic’s sulfur compounds can regulate blood sugar metabolism, stimulate and detoxify the liver, and stimulate the blood circulation and the nervous system. Garlic has also been proven to reduce cholesterol and high blood pressure. It also wards off colds, flu and diarrhea. (On the flip-side, it can also reverse constipation.)In many cultures, garlic is also considered a powerful aphrodisiac and a vegetarian alternative to Viagra. Some say its even able to raise a mans sperm count. In Palestinian tradition, a groom who wears a clove of garlic in his buttonhole is guaranteed a happy wedding night. While experts vary in opinion regarding the recommended daily amount of dietary garlic, most of them agree that fresh garlic is better than supplements. To negate the aromatic after effects of fresh garlic, herbalists recommend munching on fresh parsley (its more than just a garnish, folks) or fennel seed. There are two main forms of garlic–softneck and hardneck–and a number of different varieties including Rocambole, Purple Stripe, Porcelain, Artichoke, Silverskin, Asiatic/Turban, and Creole. Silverskin and other softneck garlic are what one usually finds in grocery stores because of their storage keeping ability. Rocamboles are the most widely known hardneck variety and tend to have a deeper, stronger flavor than softnecks, but do not store as well. Rocamboles stand out for their brightness and Purple Stripes for their ability to caramelize into sweet cloves when roasted. Green garlic is garlic that is cultivated before its bulb has matured. Green garlic is sweeter and less aggressive than mature garlic and is often substituted for leeks. In recent years, garlic has gained a great deal of popularity due to popular cooking shows. It is used in a wide variety of ways for cooking. It is used in meats, sauces, seafood dishes, and the ever-popular garlic bread, so if you havent already, start including garlic into your diet or vitamin regimen. written by Allison J. How to Date Online for Seniors

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Lawrence Andrews Merely registering as a member on online dating sites does not guarantee that you get the perfect match. As a senior trying out his or her chances in online dating services, you should clearly state what you are looking for in a mate. Otherwise, how would the site give you its prospective matches? Dating online with success is not hard if you remember some tips to guide you through the process. For example, you may be a member of a top senior dating site, but what if you do not check your email regularly? For all you know, someone is interested in meeting you. And what about your online profile? Does it show your best foot forward? Or does your profile look like a warning signal for others to stay away from you? Follow these tips in making a good profile, and your chances to get a date will increase. 1. State what your objectives are In your profile, put something in the headline that will shout to everyone what you really are and why do people need to check you out. Be informative and catchy. Tell something about you and your objectives in a very appealing and enticing tone. An ordinary profile might not carry it, but when finding a love mate, you can use a metaphor as a sales tool. For example, you might want to use as headline Mature gentleman ripe for picking than Decrepit old man wanting to get hitched. 2. Accentuate the positive and specific, not the negative and general You do want a mate, thats why you applied as a member of an online site, isnt it? So, like your job resume, you should focus on your positive side. Tell your good points that you could bring into a relationship. Shout to the world why they should bother reading your profile and hopefully, make communication with you. For example, instead of merely describing yourself as just fun-loving, why not tell something that would really show your fun-loving side? You could say instead that you love to watch movies every weekend and going to a nice jazz bar in town. Doesnt that sound exciting? 3. Make the letter personalized When writing someone you think is a potential match, avoid letter-like introductions. Instead be casual and personal in your note. You can take someones eyes by responding directly to something he or she said in his or her profile. Success in getting an online match is easy with these tips. Tips for Remembering Names

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Bill Lee Is remembering names a challenge for you? It sure is for me. Sometimes I feel incredible embarrassment when I have forgotten the name of a person who was introduced to me 30 seconds ago. If you suffer from “can’t remember names syndrome,” consider the following tips. 1. Give your full attention to the introduction. Don’t get caught shaking the hand of a new acquaintance with one eye on someone else in the room. Give the person you’re meeting your full attention. Make the person feel important by making the introduction important to you. 2. Listen carefully and repeat the name immediately and then a time or two more in the first 60 seconds following the introduction. Verbal repetition helps reinforce a new name in your memory, and gives you the opportunity to rehearse or double-check difficult pronunciations. 3. Think of someone with the same name: A relative, friend, coworker, etc. Associate this person with your new acquaintance. 4. Form an immediate association with the name and the person’s outstanding feature or trait. Whether it’s flattering or not, the first association you make with a person is the best tool you can use for remembering the name. Hair color, tone of voice, style of clothing or even height are all effective associations. 5. As the conversation continues, continue to occasionally use the person’s name. This will test your memory and establish closer ties with an individual. “I couldn’t agree with you more, Joe,” or “You know, Sue, I heard a funny story about that” are both examples of individualized conversation that sounds friendly and not forced. 6. If you forget a name or didn’t hear it the first time, don’t fake itask by saying something like, “I’m sorry, but please tell me your name again.” Most people would prefer to repeat their names rather than correct a wrong guess. Politely asking for a reminder may be awkward, but it will be appreciated. If the name is particularly difficult to retain or pronounce, ask for a spelling. 7. Don’t make excuses. No one wants to hear “I’m terrible with names” or “I meet so many people in a day.” Excuses like these can make even the most important person feel insignificant in your eyes. 8. If you’re speaking to someone new over the telephone, jot down the name on a piece of paper to make sure you don’t forget the name. 9. When your conversation ends, whether on the telephone or in person, also make a note of the person’s name and organization and jot down enough information about the individual to jog your memory later when you get back to your office or to your home. Full attention during new introductions is the key to keeping names from slipping your mind. Take the time to fully focus on anyone you’re about to meet. The time to recognize an important contact is before you forget the name, not afterwards! Ask For Help In Dealing With Depression

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Justin Meyer More often than not, depression is diagnosed through intervention. However, sometimes, you are the first to realize that you need help. How do you go about asking for it? How do you find someone who can direct you to the best way to find it? Your best friend, although someone you would trust with anything, may not be the best person to approach first, especially if they do not know anything about these diseases. If you are identifying as depressed on your own, then you should first find someone with some knowledge on the subject. It might be a friend who suffers from the condition, or it might be your doctor. Ask them how you should proceed. They will be able to refer you to a therapist who will either agree to treat you or help you find someone who is better suited to your condition. Remember, not all therapists deal with depression, some deal with addiction, others with family counseling. So just because a therapist refers you elsewhere is not a judgment of your condition. If you are getting treated through your insurance, they might try to find you a therapist who works with your insurance. Looking for your support system is not hard to do. Start with your best friends, and work out from there. You will find that you will have a large support circle so take advantage of it. It is best not to stress out any one friend asking for help too often. Rely on different friends, because that way you wont have people worry unnecessarily. But dont worry about worrying them unnecessarily. If you need help, go get it. Your friends will be there to help you.
