How to be Comfortable on a First Date

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Jennifer Jordan You’re never too old for a first date. From young ‘uns meeting in city bars, to the older folks swooning each other at bingo halls, dating is a part of life. While great things come along with dating (wink, wink, nod, nod), not everything is smooth sailing. Oftentimes, dates can be uncomfortable, particularly when they are first dates. Perhaps the biggest date deal-breaker of all - other than a kidnapping attempt or a murder confession - is the dreaded uncomfortable silence, the cessation of conversation as crickets start chirping in the background. Because of the fear of this, people on first dates often exhibit a sense of unrest, and a desperation to keep the conversation going even if they have to start singing show tunes. However, this fear is often exaggerated and, with a few tricks, a first date can be as comfortable as speaking to someone you’ve known for years, or at least a few months. Pick a Good Place Meeting at a caf or a restaurant may be fine, but a lot of times this can add to the pressure of having the entire evening fall on the shoulders of the dating duo. Because these places have little on which the couple to focus, or use as a conversation piece, they can be more uncomfortable than places where conversation may be added by outside forces. Going to a movie or a play, on the contrary, restricts the conversation too much, with people shushing you as you turn to your date and ask, “So where are you from?” Instead, try doing something that allows for both conversation and external activity such as going golfing, going to see a live band, going bowling, or going to a museum. Ask Questions People on first dates have an advantage: they essentially know very little about each other. This gives them the ability to keep the conversation going and develop commonalities by asking questions. From inquiring about where a person is from, to asking about movies and music, there is a plethora of questions for the asking. While certain questions should be avoided - asking about religion, asking about politics, asking for their credit card number - most questions are both fair game and the key to getting a second date. Be Yourself Sure, it’s the oldest clich in the Book of Love, but it’s also one of the truest. Uncomfortable first dates are often marked with the two respective parties trying too hard to impress the other. Boasting about being an accomplished hand model or how a college dissertation on seahorses received the highest marks might seem like it will make an impression, but it might be of the wrong kind. Instead of trying to captivate your date with a resume of your life’s greatest accomplishments, simply be relaxed and be yourself. Dating is a hard thing to do. It’s time consuming, frustrating, and enough to make some people long for the days of arranged marriages. However, it’s part of life, a part we deal with one day, or one date, at a time. Keeping a few things in mind can be the difference between an uncomfortable date, and a date full of contentment. No matter how it goes, returning home to a Natural Latex mattress can either soothe your dating woes, or reward you for a date well done. With breathable material that conforms to your body, keeping you engulfed in comfort and calming temperatures, a Natural Latex mattress can give the great night’s rest you need to tackle the dating world. And, if the date goes extremely well, a Natural Latex mattress can always be used for something other than sleeping. Jennifer Jordan is a senior editor for http://www.foamsource.com. Cause-Related Marketing vs. Strategic Philanthropy

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Maggie Keenan, Ed.D. Six months ago, I had communication with a national corporation about their consideration to developing a corporate strategic philanthropy program. They didn’t have one at all. I kept thinking, imagine the impact this corporation could have in communities where they have a presence! WOW! It would be phenomenal for them and communities. Let me say this corporation is big. Okay, they are huge. Well, they were kind enough to let me know that they had just hired a public relations firm to create one for them. I thought to myself, “What a pr firm? No please no.” But what to do next, just wait and see what they come up with. Just one month ago, I visited the corporations website. There it was, just as I thought was going to happen. They have a program, but it is a cause-related marketing program. I was crushed and let me tell you why. Cause-related marketing programs are based on two things. One is a one-on-one partnership between a company and a charity. The other is it’s product driven/sales promoted. The program works as long as there is no negative publicity about either the company or the charity and it works so as long as the product moves. In a nutshell, cause related marketing has a shelf-life. While folks contend that any giving is a good thing, these type of programs are not sustainable. The message is not necessarily one that stands over time nor does the giving. On the other hand, strategic philanthropy programs are created by individuals or companies whose roots are based in philanthropy. Philanthropy is a field with its own set of principles, methods, professionals and message. Strategic philanthropy is not based on product or services and is not promoted by sales. At its core, it is based on the fundamental principle of being responsibly committed to changing lives and the world today and for future generations. If your company is serious about making an impact and giving back, you’ve got to be serious about the type of giving program you have and how it works. It should be value-based and sustainable. Consumers are savvy folks, just like you and me. Don’t think they are fooled by giving that is essentially marketing-driven. If you want marketing, hire a marketing strategist. If you want philanthropy, hire a philanthropy strategist. 2005-2006. Maggie F. Keenan, Ed.D. All Rights reserved. How to Afford Liposuction

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Tara Pingle Liposuction is usually an elective cosmetic surgery procedure, which means it is not generally covered by insurance policies. Liposuction is a wonderful solution for both men and women who have areas of fat on their body that are resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction is not a weight loss solution, however, and should be used to contour the body, not lose weight. Also, when choosing whether or not to have a liposuction, it is important to choose a surgeon and facility based on credentials, experience, and results, rather than price. All too often, people choose the cheapest plastic surgeon to perform their liposuction, and unfortunately many times, you see it in the results. Be wary of plastic surgeons offering unbelievably low prices for liposuction, as it may reflect on the quality of liposuction you receive. Also, look out for plastic surgeons offering very cheap deals on liposuction for committing to the procedure that day. Liposuction is a very personal decision, and the procedure varies from person to person. The cost of your liposuction can vary depending on the amount of fat being removed and the number of different places being treated. The best way to determine how you are going to finance your liposuction procedure is to schedule an initial consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon. If you would like to learn more information about liposuction, feel free to contact Dr. Adrian Lo in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lawn Tractors Were Never a Chore

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Van Whitsett I still remember the day my father got his first of many lawn tractors. We had a many acre lawn back then and he was incredibly relieved to be rid of the push mower. For me, it made the prospect of doing chores exciting. Getting on the lawn tractor was a privilege in those days and I begged for the opportunity to cut the grass for my father. Back then lawn tractors were never much for speed or ease of use. Turning it on was always a difficult job. My father usually had to do it and then it was a struggle to get me on without initiating the emergency shutoff. Once I got going though Id easily be on it for hours; not just because the lawn required it but because I enjoyed steering so much that I would end up missing big sections of grass. One of the next lawn tractors he got was much easier for me to start but by then I was big enough to start the other anyway. Unfortunately for my father I was also driving by then so the novelty of being able to steer a motor vehicle around the back yard was no more. Not that I stopped doing it; its just that it became a chore and, as such, was preceded by typical parental threats. These days lawn tractors come fully loaded with all kinds of perks and are far more pleasurable to use then the old clunker my dad first had. The lawn tractors people are using today, or the ones they should be getting themselves at any rate, are getting closer to luxury vehicles then gardening tools. Lawn tractors now come with comfortable seating, quieter engines, more efficient blades and even cup holders. Thats what I was missing on my dads old riding lawn mower, a place to put my soda! Van Whitsett has published a number of articles, both online and offline. If Children Learn To Live The Commandments They Will Be Happy

Friday, August 24th, 2007

By Eva Fry At the Special Olympics several of the children were in a race. The gun went off and they each started running. Before long, one of the little girl’s fell down. When the other children saw that she had fallen, they turned around and ran back to her. They all helped her up and held hands and ran across the finish line, together. In another race, the gun went off all and the children started to run. When one of the boys got to the finish line, he stopped and let his friend Johnny pass him and win the race. When they asked him why he did that, he said: I already have a metal but Johnny doesnt and he needs a metal too, so I let him go first! How were these children like Jesus? They were kind. They were thoughtful. They thought of the other person before they thought of themselves. They were loving. They were giving. They were like Jesus! We all need to be like Jesus. Do you think these children were happy when the other person won? Yes they were. Why? They had love in their hearts for the their friends. These young people lived the most important commandment Jesus taught us. What is the first and most important commandment? 1. We must Love the Lord our God and love our neighbors as ourselves. We are taught to love others.!!!! Why is loving others the most important commandment?Because Jesus said that we must love others, and we want to obey him? Why do you think he told us we should love others?Because when we love others we are happy and so are they. What does serving others mean? It means to do kind things for others, help them. and care for them. How can we live this greatest commandment in our lives? We can love others. We can be obedient. We can be kind. We can look out for others. We can do secret acts of kindness. They are only secret to the one that we do the kindness too, because God sees everything you do and it makes God happy. Doing good to others also makes us better, and happier people. You can never be kind to someone else without finding happiness yourself. Jesus commanded us to do many others things, besides to love each other. What are some of Jesus other commandments? Where do you find them? In the Bible in Exodus: 20. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS 1. WE MUST LOVE GOD 2. WE SHOULD NOT MAKE ANY GRAVEN IMAGE This means we should not worship anything or anyone but God. We cannot worship money or things we own or want to own. We only worship Heavenly-Father and Jesus. We don’t waist our time on foolish things that mean nothing. We spend our time being obedient to Heavenly Father and obeying the commandments Jesus taught. 3. WE MUST NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD IN VAIN This means not swearing or saying bad words. Why did Jesus tell we should not do this? It is a commandment. And God loves us and knows whats best for us. Every time we obey Jesus, there is a blessing connected to it, if you are obedient. If you do no obey you do not get the blessing and because God doesnt want Satan to destroy us. When we say bad words, when we swear we defile ourselves. We make ourselves less than we can be. We make ourselves vulgar, not godly; we are not like Jesus. When we swear, say bad works- we dont love ourselves and we dont love God. Would Jesus ever say bad words? No. And we want to be like Jesus 4. WE MUST KEEP THE SABBATH DAY HOLY This means to make Sunday a special, spiritual day. Sunday is a day when we go to Church, when we pray, when we learn the word of God. It is a special day to care for others and a day to only do good things, which would make Jesus happy. 5. WE MUST HONOR OUR FATHER AND MOTHER Why should we do this? !. It is a commandment and God loves us and knows whats best for us. When we honor our parents, we honor God, because our parents are his children just like we are and he loves them. When we honor our parents, we respect them, even when we have parents that may not live the way God wants us to. We must love them anyway and try to be good examples to them so they can find God too. Sometimes our goodness will help them learn to be good too. We must pray for them and Jesus will give you help to do what you should. If you honor your parents you obey them, are kind to them and make them proud of you. Do you think Jesus was kind to his parents? Yes he loved them very much and we want to be like Jesus. 6. WE MUST NOT KILL We know that this is bad and we would never do anything so bad. 7. WE MUST NOT COMMIT ADULTERY This is a commandment older people understand but it is a commandment to help us be happy. This commandment means that we respect our bodies and other people’s bodies too. We keep our bodies clean. Our bodies were made to have children, which is a gift given to us by God and we only use this gift when we are married. 8. WE MUST NOT STEAL Why? Because God loves us. God wants us to be happy. When we are dishonest we are never happy. Wickedness never brings happiness. I see kids at juvenile hall, locked up, because they were dishonest. They stole things and now they have their freedom taken away. If you have done bad things, how do you fix it? You tell God you are sorry and you will never do the bad thing again. This is called repentance. You try to make up to the person you hurt. Why would Jesus tell us not to steal? Because when we steal we loose our freedom. We have guilt to live with. We are not happy. 9. WE MUST NOT BARE FALSE WITNESS which means we should not tell lies. Telling lies is about the worst thing you can do. You never want to tell lies about another person. You will hurt them but you will also hurt yourself. When you tell lies Jesus knows it so you dont get away with it and when you break the commandments you arent worthy for the blessings that he has to give to you when you do obey him. 10. WE MUST NOT COVET What does covet mean? Its when you want what someone else has. When you are jealous. What does coveting someone or being jealous of him or her do to you? It makes you unhappy. You are never content with what you have. How you do stop coveting others things? You become grateful for what you do have! You become happy for other people and the things that they have and for the gifts God has blessed them with. Living the Ten Commandments can make us happy and we will make Jesus happy too. Remember the 10 commandments - put in simple words 1. We must love God 2. We must only worship God 3. We must not take The Lords Name in Vain 4. We must honor our parents 5. We must not kill 6. We must keep Sunday Holy 7. We must be morally clean 8. We must not steal 9. We must not tell lies 10. We must not covet. Why should we do these things? 1. Because they are commandments 2. Because God loves us 3. Because God knows whats best 4. Because God wants to bless us 5. Because we want to be like Jesus 6. Because we dont want Satan to destroy us. Remember the story of the children in the race. They let someone else win the race. They loved others more than themselves, like Jesus. Be like them. Be kind to others and youll be happy and youll make Jesus happy too. Eva Fry’s mission is to help others become better and happier. Secrets to Gorgeous Sedu Prom Hairstyles Revealed

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By Mary Anne Lionel Prom occasions are always the topic of the season. We usually have at least one prom occasion, party, or night out to look forward to every month. Life would be dull and joyless without weddings, birthdays, formal occasions, and friends parties that take our thoughts away from everyday routine and create good mood for the rest of the month. But these events may be a source of our stress as well, when choosing the right dress or hairstyle to wear in order to look special and unique. So, if you want to look pretty on your friends party or simply irresistible at your prom, there is a quick, effective and unique solution called Sedu prom hairstyles. With a great variety of sedu prom hairstyles you can be natural, chic, formal, or have a vintage style, and have a new perfect look everyday! Natural Sedu Hair Style If you have a lack of time, or prefer to be natural at any occasion, then this style is a perfect match for you. It involves simple dress of some fall-down fabric like chiffon, silk, or satin. The dress may also be made of the combination of these fabrics. Perfect type of dress is full length with low neck and sleeveless. Such dresses are always elegant and need no further improvements by adding accessories. If you choose to add accessories, avoid anything heavier, than light gold or silver chain with small and neat pendant, or you risk to spoil you natural Sedu look. The make-up is as close to the natural make-up-free appearance as possible. Natural Sedu hair style is simple. The hair is either left lose and straight, with some curls at the bottom, or twisted into lose bun to express the naturalness of the image. Sometimes when hair is left lose it is better to pin up the framing tresses to show the face. To create this Sedu hair style follow these steps: 1. Wash and condition the hair; 2. Let it air dry, if you have time, or make a quick blow dry with the cool shot; 3. Apply some styling mousse and make cool blow dry for 3-5 min; 4. Use straightener to ensure that you have absolutely Sedu straight hair; 5. Make curls in, or out at the bottom of the hair, or pin the hair in the bun leaving framing tresses lose to add naturalness. Now you have absolutely natural Sedu style with fall-down full-length dress, and hair style that expresses the beauty of your natural image. These are two main reasons why natural Sedu hairstyles are also popular among celebrities: 1. It is hard to impress someone with sophisticated hair style or dress, but natural image is bound to attract attention; 2. Great tension of the moment, when all cameras clicking, and people shouting, leaves no space to the head ache, which is usual for many women when they have a lot of pins in the hair that secure the hairdo. The most popular celebrities that prefer to have natural Sedu prom hair style are Jennifer Aniston, Lindsay Lohan, Hillary Duff, and Angelina Jolie. They are well known for their simple, but elegant and smart styles that express their beauty. Chic Sedu Hair Style Such style is suitable for people who are not afraid to experiment. It usually involves some sophisticated hairdo, great and expressive dress with low neck, and expensive jewellery. It is easy to spot chic lovers among celebrities. Famous Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman, and Charlize Theron are known for their fashionable Chic Sedu hair styles. Things you need to do to have Chic Sedu style are following: Pick up a dress that is made of luxurious fabric with stiff corsage, low neck, and fall-down skirt of any length. It is important that the dress should be of bright color, no pastel shades are suitable for chic style. Choose impressive accessories like big necklace and earrings. It would look good with low neck and updo. Take high-heeled shoes of suitable color to match the dress and accessories. If you have sleeveless dress you may also wear gloves, they will add to your chic image. Make-up should be bright, but suitable. Its role is to underline your image, and not to ruin it. Everything should be matching, and not necessary the colors of the season, because everything that matches your image is fashionable in Chic Sedu style. Create a complicated hairdo. It is usually the hardest thing from the list. But you wont have any trouble if you follow the steps below. To create a Chic Sedu hair style, follow these steps: 1. Wash your hair and condition it; 2. Make quick towel drying and apply some styling mousse; 3. Blow dry the hair until it is completely dry; 4. Straighten the hair to tame and make it smooth; 5. Divide off front hair; 6. Create a twist of the bottom hair; 7. Make side parting for the front hair and turn both parts around the bottom twist; 8. To add extravagancy leave framing tresses, and curl them slightly; 9. Add hair accessories, which may be jeweled pins or flowers of the season, or some slides with decorative ornaments. Now your Chic Sedu hair style is ready, and you have a look of world-is-at-my-feet: woman. Formal Sedu Hair Style Formal Sedu hair style is appropriate for special occasions like your in-laws parties, your friends wedding, or corporate parties. It needs some formal dress of pastel, or contrast colors, that is white, black, or their combination, low-heeled shoes, strict hair style and formal pastel make-up. Though it is rather old-fashioned, formal style is usually the best choice for any occasion, except for the friends disco parties or graduation ball. You have all comfort possible with simple and plain dress with knee-high straight skirt, and create impression of a serious and reliable person. Pastel make-up adds naturalness to the image, while low-heeled shoes give you the ability to feel your legs after long hours spent on feet. Sedu hair styles that go with this image should be simple, yet elegant, expressing your personality and beauty in every situation. The most popular hair styles are tight bun and low ponytail. To create a Formal Sedu hair style follow these steps: 1. Wash and condition your hair; 2. Let it air dry, or make a cool blow dry; 3. Apply some styling mousse, and blow dry the hair for 3-5 min with the cool set; 4. Make low-pony tail with some elastic band, twist the tail around the band and secure it with pins. Use no hair accessories, if you want to look absolutely formal, or add some jeweled pins for happy and friendly occasions, like weddings; 5. You may leave the pony tail lose, only hide elastic band under some neat hair accessory. After youve finished all steps, you receive formal Sedu hair style, which creates an impression of the beautiful, yet serious woman, who makes everything perfect in her life. Vintage Sedu Hair Style Vintage Sedu hair style is one of the latest innovations in the world of fashion. It is usually suitable for any celebrations and evening parties. The word vintage is French and its direct meaning is twenty years, but today vintage means some old fashion, brought up and renewed. For instance, Reese Witherspoons style at Oscars night this year is vintage. Her dress was of Victorian England style, and with matching hairstyle and pastel make-up it looked absolutely unique and adorable. To create a Vintage sedu hair style you will need: To pick up a dress model that was popular not less than 20 years ago; Renew this model to suit modern fashion tendencies in fabric and accessories; Create pastel make-up with colors that match the dress; Choose accessories and jewellery that add charm to the image. You may want to have a handbag and shoes of the style popular in the same time period as your dress; To create a Vintage sedu hair style, follow these steps: 1. Wash and condition you hair; 2. Make it air or blow dry; 3. Apply some styling mousse, and blow dry the hair for 3-5 min to remove any signs of uncontrollable hair; 4. Create any vintage Sedu hair style that will match your dress. Vintage Sedu style is very beautiful and remarkable for any occasions, especially prom. It creates a mysterious air around you, adds to your personality special charm and loveliness. It is very easy to create, and it really distinguishes you. Note that Sedu prom hair styles are not bound to those described above. Ive tried to collect and present the most popular ones that gain our affection and trust by their beauty and Sedu nature. Sedu prom hair styles are numerous and various, though all have common aim: to express the Sedu nature of the women and present them as one-of-a-kind personalities. Great Info About The South Beach Diet

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By James Ellison Formulated by Florida-area heart specialist Arthur Agatston, the South Beach diet, stresses the intake of beneficial carbs and beneficial fats. He produced this diet for his heart patients supported upon his work of scientific dieting inquiry. The South Beach diet is oftentimes falsely likened to the Atkins diet , which is mostly a low-carbohydrate diet. Dr. Agatston thinks that extra ingestion of supposed harmful carbohydrates makes an insulin resistance syndrome which is an symptom of reduced quality of the hormone insulin’s ability to decently act on body fat or sugar. Also he believes, with most doctors, that overindulgence of bad fats adds to an gain in cardiovascular disease. To make impossible these two conditions, The doctor’s diet downplays consumption of bad fats and bad carbs and promotes increased consumption of good fats and good carbs. The South Beach diet has three stages. In all stages of the diet, Dr. Agatston urges minimizing consumption of bad fats. In Phase I, enduring two weeks, people try to eradicate insulin resistance by staying clear from moderately high or high-glycemic carbs, such as candy, sugar, bread, fruit, potatoes, grains and cereals. Throughout Phase I, Dr. Agatston states the body will lose its insulin resistance, and start to utilize excess body fat, getting the dieter to lose between 10 and 15 pounds. In two weeks, Phase II starts. Fruits and whole grain foods are step by step brought back to the diet, while in smaller amounts than were probably eaten prior to beginning the diet, and with a extended accent on foods with a low glycemic index. Whenever the dieter achieves the sought after weight Phase III starts. In Phase III the diet extends to add three portions of whole grains and three portions of fruit a day. The diet differentiates between good and bad carbohydrates, good and bad fats. Beneficial carbs are rich in fiber or rich in good fats, and get a low glycemic index, that is, they are digested and ingested easy. Some other desirable carbohydrates are those with more nutritional measure than the options. For example, brown rice is permitted in moderation, but white rice is deterred. When consuming any carbohydrates, the Dr. urges also eating fiber or fat to retard digestion of the carbohydrates. Good fats are polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, particularly those with omega-3 fatty acids. Trans fats and saturated fats are bad fats. South Beach diet stresses: 1. a change in the way you eat 2. eat many different foods 3. simplicity and adaptability. Consuming whole grains and big quantities of vegetables is promoted, along with sufficient amounts of mono- and polyunsaturated fats, with omega-3 fatty acids, such as are held in fish. It deters the eating of excessively processed foods like high fat meats, and saturated fats. The diet does not call for counting calories or restricting portions. Dr. Agatston advises you eat until you are gratified. Dieters are assured to eat 6 meals a day - breakfast, lunch, and dinner - and snacks between meals. Use Your Slogan to Develop Powerful Marketing

By Kevin Stirtz My wife thinks I’m strange. I won’t go into all the reasons for this, but one of them is that I’m constantly looking up words in the dictionary and thesaurus. The other day I looked up the word “slogan”. What I found fascinated me. We all know what a slogan is. Too often it’s a bland and meaningless piece of self-serving verbiage we see on signs, letterhead, business cards, billboard and everywhere else companies paint their marketing messages. In my experience, most slogans are worthless as a way to deliver a useful marketing message. Because they usually say nothing. Or worse, they often give a meaning the author didn’t intend but the reader finds funny, in an unflattering way. For example, I live in Minnesota. Our nice neighbor to the south is Iowa. For a while, their big “welcome to our state” signs had a happy smiley face picture and this text: “Iowa. You make me smile.” Okay, this seems fine. Until people start tweaking it so it reads: “Iowa. You make me laugh.” (I think a Minnesotan came up with that.) James Wysong, of TravelComment.com provides us with some entertaining travel-related slogans that don’t do their makers proud: “In Washington Dulles one airport hotel sports the slogan, “Wave to the plane.” Somehow it makes me think I am going to hear and feel the plane all night long as well.” and… “In Chicago, there is another airport hotel with the slogan, “So close to the airport, it’s like sleeping on the runway.” And this is a good thing?” It’s no surprise to most of us that lame and misguided slogans abound. But what I found in the dictionary got my attention. Here’s how it describes the word “slogan”: “A war cry or gathering cry, as formerly used among the Scottish clans.” Now that’s more like it! There’s a great example of the power words can have. Just imagine a slogan so clear and strong that it can motivate, focus and energize a band of warriors going into battle. Back then, slogans saved lives, even entire villages! What would those fierce Scottish warriors think of today’s weak and wimpy slogans? “Castrol makes it work better” doesn’t quite have the impact I’d want as I launched into battle against my sworn enemies. Maybe I’m taking this personally because those Scottish warriors could have been my ancestors. (I have Logan blood in my veins.) Or, maybe we should all take our slogans as seriously as my Scottish forebears did. Maybe we should view them in the same light, as something to rally around. If we did, I’ll bet we’d have a lot more powerful and memorable slogans all around us. Companies would have one more useful weapon in their marketing arsenals. As you think of how to promote your company or brand, remember the Scottish warriors. Craft your slogan with the same care and purpose, as if it were to lead you into battle. Make it work for you rather than against you. Make it worthwhile. Make it so powerful people can’t help but remember it. That’s what a slogan should be! More customers! More revenue! More profits!
