Have you ever thought to have your trade show booth available online? By using video on demand on your company website you can entice visitors to come to your trade show display at their convenience. It was the technology industrys largest trade show, yet it was not open to the public. There is good news, however, for trade show wannabes who no longer have to feel left out in the cold. These industry titans have created video on demand on their company websites as a way to share their trade show experience with the entire universe– not just those physically attending the trade show. Gates gave a rousing, informative keynote speech at the CES Show, and Jobs gave a magical keynote speech at his MacWorld. Both got loud cheers from those in attendance, but they also got a lot of praise from the millions of virtual trade show visitors who viewed their speeches online. Want to hear them now? By Kevin Cundick Phytophthora (Root Rot) can affect any plant or tree, especially fruit trees. It is a soil borne organism which infects the roots to the point where it kills the plant. Spores created by Phytophthora are drought resistant, but most active during wet, cool seasons often in the Spring or after harvest. How can Phythophthora be recognized? The leaves of the plant will begin to wilt and show a yellowing. Dried leaves will be retained. Young roots and occasionally larger roots will have a dark color. The infection damages roots so they cannot absorb water. What causes Phythophthora?Zoo spores cause the infection. These zoo spores like moist soil conditions which allow it to spread from plant to plant. When the infection feels its livelihood is threatened, it can produce to spore types that are capable of surviving in dead plant material for long lengths of time. The infection spreads quickest downhill. Are there factors which encourage the spread of the disease?Because the infection thrives in moist soil conditions, flooding and soil compaction help in the spread of the infection. Clay heavy soils can add to the difficulty of adequate drainage which can add to the spread of the infection. What can be done to treat Phytophthora?Phytophthora can be difficult to treat, but not impossible. Phytophthora is a fungus and so there is no cure for it, similar to treating a human fungus. First, be sure your plants have adequate drainage. Do not over water. Add organic soil. If you elect to use a chemical for treatment, it is best to treat the fungus before plants or trees are planted if possible. The use of some fungicides and adding in some organic matter, or mulch, to the soil along with good hygienic practices will reduce the activity of the organism. By Michael Russell Modern skin care products contain various ingredients that are effective for many purposes, including cleansing, healing, soothing and firming. The following is a list of ingredients to look for in these products: ALLANTOIN is a chemical extracted from the comfrey root. It is an anti-irritant with healing and soothing properties that makes an excellent additive in face creams, masks and lotions. ALMOND OIL is a vegetable oil extracted from almond seeds. It stays fresher longer than many other similar nut oils and for this reason it is used in many skin care products. ALOE VERA is a natural moisturizer. It serves as a delivery system for other vitamins and nutrients in skin care products and can probably be considered an essential ingredient in almost all skin care products. ALPHA LIPOIC ACID is an anti-oxidant with a powerful anti-inflammatory effect. The fat soluble portion of alpha lipoic acid is of tremendous benefit to the skin. Substances that are water soluble do not penetrate the skin very well, but fat soluble molecules do penetrate. ASCORBIC ACID is a water soluble form of Vitamin C which promotes collagen production. Vitamin C also has anti-inflammatory properties and defends against free radicals in the skin created by sunlight, ozone and harsh chemicals. CHAMOMILLA RECUTITA (MATRICARIA) EXTRACT is from chamomile which is one of the few herbs that has any value for the skin. A mild mixture of chamomile leaves produces an oily substance that is soothing to the skin. Matricaria is a derivative of chamomile that some experts believe hastens skin healing. DMAE is a nutritional substance that can be found in fish such as salmon. It is an anti-inflammatory, anti-aging topical agent that increases skin health, tone and radiance. A landmark study in which DMAE and alpha lipoic acid were combined in a topical solution showed marked resolution in scarring for patients with surgical scars when applied twice daily. It can also reduce the severity of atrophic (indented) acne scars. DMAE can also act as a penetration enhancer to increase the anti-inflammatory effects of alpha lipoic acid. Topical application of DMAE has a cumulative effect and can decrease the appearance of large pores over time. EVENING PRIMROSE OIL is a source of GLA (Gamma Linoleic Acid), an Omega-6 essential fatty acid which is a potent anti-inflammatory agent. GLYCERIN is a clear, syrupy liquid made by chemically combining water and fat. The water splits the fat into smaller components, glycerol and fatty acids. It improves the spreading quality of creams and lotions and prevents them from losing water through evaporation. GRAPESEED EXTRACT is important to skin care because it protects collagen from damage by free radicals, dampens inflammation and helps maintain the health and integrity of blood vessels. GREEN TEA EXTRACT helps protect the skin from damaging free radicals. It contains powerful anti-oxidants called polyphenols that are also excellent anti-inflammatories. HYALURONIC ACID is a substance found in human cells that helps hold moisture in the skin, as much as 300 times its own weight in water. This is an extremely effective ingredient that can also be quite costly. JOJOBA OIL is an expensive oil extracted from the jojoba seed that can provide a good film of moisture. KERATIN is the protein that is the primary constituent of the hair, nails and skin. OMEGA-3 & -6 OILS are essential fatty acids important to skin health. The Omega-3 essential fatty acids dramatically reduce the body’s production of inflammatory compounds. The active ingredients in Omega-6 oils are derived from linoleic acid. PANTHENOL is a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. SQUALENE is a substance derived from shark lipid that contains large quantities of Vitamins A and D and has very good emollient properties. TRIETHANOLAMINE is an alkali that handles oil well by emulsifying it. UBIQUINONE preserves the anti-oxidant action of Vitamin C and protects cell membranes against oxidative damage. UREA is a natural substance that removes dead, dry skin cells. Urea both soothes dry skin and stimulates cell growth in the epidermis. It is a valuable additive in moisturizers. It is an aquaphilic compound that both attracts water and prevents its loss. It is the dry epidermis’ best friend. Acne-prone people should also use products containing urea as it seals in moisture without clogging pores. VITAMIN A is probably the most important vitamin involved in the appearance of the skin. It can pas through the skins’ layers and may exert an effect on the rate of keratinization of the skin. It is also an excellent ingredient in acne preparations, dry skin care and soothing creams for burns and irritated skin. Retinyl palmitate is a form of Vitamin A that some studies indicate turns into Retin-A (the acidic form of Vitamin A) in the skin. Retin-A appears to be one of the only products that when applied to the surface of the skin reduces lines and wrinkles and restores pink color to aging skin. VITAMIN D is absorbed through the skins’ outer layers. There is some evidence demonstrating that it exerts a healing effect on the skin when applied topically. It seems to work particularly well when combined with Vitamin A. VITAMIN E is a powerful anti-oxidant. This list in fairly comprehensive but by no means exhaustive. It is important to note that many of the above ingredients work well together and can have a synergistic effect when combined. By Kent Pinkerton One thing to keep in mind when seeking relationship advice is that the relationship advice business is exactly that a business, and a big business at that. It is important to be aware that there is a lot of bad advice available in the marketplace, a lot of poorly trained relationship counselors around, and a lot of poorly conceived and badly written books on the subject. So what do you do when you feel your relationship is starting to suffer? Where do you turn? The very first place to turn is to your friends and family members to see if they have had any experience in seeking out good relationship help. At the very worst, they may be able to steer you away from some counselor who didnt work or some books that didnt help. At the best, they may reveal to you that having been in the same position as you find yourself in currently, they found an answer or a therapist that worked for them and may also work for you. Word of mouth personal referrals are the absolute best way to find someone to help strengthen your relationship. Visit the therapist they recommended and talk with him or her. The initial consultation is usually free and youll know quickly whether or not this person has anything to say that might help you. Find some information about that couples relationship workshop they attended and see if looks or sounds like something you and your mate might want to try. Read that book, which by now is probably available for free at your local library and try to determine if it opens any windows into your situation. By spending some time where a friend directs you, you may not find the answers you seek but you will have started down a path of trying to heal things that just may lead you to the right destination. Relationships Info provides detailed information about online relationships, long distance relationships, relationship advice, relationship problems, relationship quizzes, interracial relationships, and more. By Anne Clarke Outdoor heaters are becoming more and more popular in residential settings. Once, generally found only in restaurant settings, outdoor heaters are now big hits in middle class neighborhoods, as well. Are you considering purchasing outdoor heaters for your own home? Before you do so, learn more about the pros and cons associated with outdoor heaters, as well as some tips. Compared to outdoor fire pits and chimneas, outdoor heaters release fewer emissions. Also, after sitting around an outdoor heater all night, neither you nor your guests will smell like a campfire! Also compared to outdoor fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, and chimneas, there are more ongoing costs associated with outdoor heaters. — If you have a gas outdoor heater, you must pay for refills of gas. — Electric heaters require the quartz to replaced about every 7 years (and your electricity bill will go up). — Also, there are more maintenance fees associated with both outdoor heaters and electric heaters. Although they are durable, it is still much easier to break a patio heater than an outdoor fireplace! Mushroom or umbrella outdoor heaters are most effective if there is no wind. A little bit of wind can make a big difference on how warm the area surrounding the heater is. Also, with gas heaters, wind can make flame move toward and damage internal components. To avoid problems with wind, it is best to set up your outdoor heater near walls, fences, and overhangs (making sure to still keep it at least 2 feet from walls and ceilings read the warning and instructions before setting up the heater.) Mushroom heaters are good because they reflect the heat down and out, where you want it to be. But moisture (especially salt air or chlorine air) can be hard on them. Buts can also be a problem, climbing into the burner orifices and the pilot light. Fingerprints can burn into the mushroom reflector surface. When not using your mushroom outdoor heater, be sure to store it away and/or place a heater cover over it. Mushroom/umbrella outdoor heaters put out more heat than directional outdoor heaters, but directional outdoor heaters can easily be mounted to many different surfaces, making them easy to set up and use. They are not affected by wind. They cost less, and bugs are not so much of a problem with them. An outdoor heater with wheels is much easier to move around than one without wheels! If you already have a natural gas line in your home, you may consider setting up a natural gas outdoor heater directly to it. Of course, if you do so, you will have fewer options as to which area of your patio you can heat up. When deciding what type of outdoor heater to get butane, propane, natural gas, etc. consider first where the closest suppliers are to you. Choose whatever type will be most convenient. You will find multiple uses for any outdoor heater you choose to buy: — Set one up outside so that smokers do not feel too shunned or cold when they must step outside for a smoke. — Make sure that outside barbecues and parties can last longer, with guests feeling comfortable. — Extend the length of seasons that you can use your porch start using your porch earlier in the spring and later in the fall. Be sure that cool summer evenings are heated as well. — Use your outdoor heater in the morning when you want to sit outside, breath in the fresh morning air, and drink your coffee. — Turn on your outdoor heater when you are completing outdoor projects you do not want to accidentally pound your hand with a hammer because your fingers were too numb to grip it properly! Anne Clarke writes numerous articles for websites on gardening, parenting, fashion, and sports. Her background includes home decor and gardening. By Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD Holistic, Metaphysical, Energy or Mind, Body, Spirit healing has existed since the beginning of time amid religious beliefs and practices, along with the mystery, superstition, fear, and misunderstanding. Holistic Healing is now becoming recognized regardless of what anyone chooses to believe or think. According to CNN one-half of all medical schools now offer courses in holistic health care. Almost one-third of American medical schools-among them Harvard, Yale, John’s Hopkins, and Georgetown Universities-now offer coursework in holistic methods. There are five homeopathic hospitals in Great British National Service. Traditional Chinese medicine has been chosen by the World Health Organization for worldwide propagation to meet the heath care needs of the twenty-first century. One out of three drugs prescribed in Germany is an herb. The World Health Organization estimates that between 65 to 80 percent of the world’s population (about 3 billion people) rely on holistic medicine as their primary form of health care. In 1993, American consumers spent almost $1.5 billion dollars on herbal remedies-ten times more than was spent on over-the-counter sleeping pills from grocery stores and drug stores. Worldwide, only 10 to 30 percent of people use conventional medicine, 70 to 90 percent use holistic medicine. Approximately $22 million of U.S. government money has already been spent on alternative medical research since 1992 at the National Institutes of Health and Public Health Services. The American Medical Association (AMA), in Resolution #514, “is encouraging its members to become better in-formed regarding holistic medicine and to participate in appropriate studies of it. Mutual of Omaha says it saves about $6.50 in covering non-standard (holistic) treatments. 74 percent of the American population, desire a more natural approach to health care. Of the one out of three Americans who say they have used holistic medicine techniques, 84 percent said they would use it again. The U.S. government sponsors the use of acupuncture in drug rehabilitation programs. One out of every ten Americans is under the care of a chiropractor. In 1991, Americans made more visits to unconventional health care providers (425 million) than to conventional doctors (388 million). One out of three Americans were using unconventional medicine in 1991. Americans spent almost $13.7 billion on unconventional health care in 1991. 75 percent of that $13.7 billion (above) was out of pocket. 12 percent of Fortune 500 companies offer alternative medicine as part of their health care compensation packages. That percentage was expected to increase to 18 percent by the end of 1996. National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) A nationwide government survey of more than 31,000 adults on their use of complimentary and alternative medicine (CAM) showed that 36 percent of U.S. adults use some form of CAM. By Troy Evans Following a six-month crime spree in 1992, I was convicted of five armed bank robberies and served almost 8 years in Federal Prison. Now a Professional Speaker and Author, I share my past experiences with bankers to provide a look into the mind of the enemy. I would like to share that insight in connection with the escalating bank robbery problem in New York. Having recently read the comments of Senator Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) calling for replacement F.B.I. Agents to stem robberies, as well as state legislators considering the installation of security devices and/or creating a separate bank robbery charge, I can attest that none of the above will deter a would-be robber. The best deterrent is a group of alert, informed bank employees and must start with senior management support. Having met and interviewed over three hundred convicted bank robbers (as well as once being in the business myself), I discovered some common threads that most bank robbers operate under. The first being that all banks are cased to some extent- whether it be walking by several times to get a feel for the layout, handing a teller a ten dollar bill and asking for a roll of quarters, or sitting down with a loan officer under the guise of being interested in a loan. Employees need to be keenly aware of their surroundings- suspicious activities, customers they do not recognize or anything out of the ordinary. Write down details and descriptions, greet unknown individuals with eye contact and engage them in conversation. No potential robber wants someone to get a good look at him or her. What appears to be good customer service can also be the best method of deterring a crime or recalling details that could ultimately lead to apprehension. In addition, a male presence plays a large role in deterring a potential robber. Why choose an institution where someone may challenge them? A bank robber will always take the path of least resistance- always! If hiring a guard is cost prohibitive or not consistent with a customer friendly environment, make a conscious effort to hire more male tellers. At the very least, make a male presence felt on Fridays, when over 50% of all bank robberies take place. The majority of bank robbers, I would venture to say 90%, are strung out on drugs, have a gambling debt or are out of work and at the end of their rope. Combine high unemployment with our countrys continuing preoccupation with drugs and the ease in which gambling can be accessed, we can only expect things to get worse before they get better. Bank robbery is here to stay. Adding additional F.B.I. Agents will help only in the areas of apprehension and recovery and since over 90% of all bank robbers are apprehended anyway, why should this be an area of focus? Passing new and separate bank robbery charges will only add to our already overcrowded prisons, and the installation of security devices is a waste of money and only serves to alienate the legitimate customer. When I speak to banking and credit union groups and associations on robber proofing their institutions, I make it clear that high security devices and bullet proof glass are not the answer. The answer lies within those who are on the front lines-their employees. They and they alone have the power to send a would-be robber down the road to consider another institution, one that offers a path of less resistance. By Larry M. Lynch If youre salt water fishing the Pacific Coast from Mexico, Central America to Ecuador, here are some species of game fish youre likely to meet while trolling, long lining or jigging natural live baits in deep, warm waters near the coastline. The common names are listed above the scientific name. Aguja (Needle fish or Dagger Fish) Strongylura Scapularis Aguja is a unique, green-boned predator that fights to the death. The long mouth is filled to the brim with rows of needle-sharp teeth and its slender, streamlined torso give it the name Needles. Seventy to one hundred cm in length and weighing up to 20 or more pounds, they can mate in as little as every 15 days. When they reach a meter or more in length, they can be quite dangerous to the inexperienced Aguja fisherman. I have the scars to prove it. Theyll go for a variety of live baits including flying fish or fresh cut bait on treble hooks and are abundant year-round. Theyre best caught very early in the morning or at night near bait fish feeding grounds. Aguja is one of the most sought-after eating fish on the Pacific Coast. Theyre absolutely delicious despite the strange-looking lime green bones. Sierra, Common Sierra or Castilla Scomberomorus Sierra These fierce, voracious predators range from 20 to 40 cm in length and typically weigh from 6 to 8 pounds of lure-slamming, fighting fury. Theyll be more abundant during the months of June, July and August. Open waters near the coast or adjacent to coral formations are common hot spots these toothy targets that hit silver spoons with fish-catching regularity. Live bait of bait fish, squid or sardines work very well too. Their normal forage also includes shrimp and small crabs. Another of the most sought-after eating fish on the Pacific Coast. Dorado (also known as Chimbila) Coryphaena Hippurus Most commonly caught in the length of 80 to 90 cm, weighing 12 to 15 pounds, they can measure one meter or more in length and weigh up to 30 pounds. They like tranquil waters near the surface and will hit top water plugs that imitate live bait fish. Extremely abundant during the months of December and January, they are often easily spotted feeding at or very near the surface. Watch for jumping, fleeing schools of panicked small fish. Theyre normally loners, but can travel in small groups of up to eight fish. Their aerial acrobatics make them loads of fun to hook, but tricky to land. Make a hookup with any of these denizens of the not-so-deep and I guarantee you wont get bored. If you want to meet them all in a day or two, try some of their known hangouts near the Utria National Park waters at Ensenada off Colombias Pacific Coast. Theyll all be thereabouts from December through March. If youd like to see some photos of members of this Pacific Coast Posse, e-mail the author at: lynchlarrym@gmail.com .
